Riding Team: Maintaining and improving our fleet

Back in 2023 we developed a new group known as our ‘Riding Team’ to deliver projects across the fleet and better maintain our ships.

Made up of multiple sub teams with expertise in welding, electrical, engine overhaul, pipework, insulation, barista, deck and hotel standards, today the team is made up of over 130 crew who move between ships five to six times a year. Working to a 12 month plan, the teams are scheduled onto a wide variety of projects from operational maintenance to larger scale refits.

What are the benefits?

• Enhanced ship condition and therefore a better experience for our guests.
• Better investment in our people through training and upskilling.
• A more flexible in-house support model, offering greater adaptability in responding to the needs of the fleet.
• Reduced reliance on high-cost contractors.
• A planned approach which gives us better opportunity to scope work, match skills and order materials in advance.

Nicola Robinson, Riding Teams Superintendent, said: 

“A highlight of 2024 was deploying 120 crew across multiple riding teams to Arcadia’s dry dock; taking on work which otherwise would have been contracted to the shipyard or outside contractors. The teams successfully delivered significant cost savings and operational improvements.”

This year we’ll be expanding the use of the Riding teams across multiple areas, supporting key projects such as service power pack (SPP) delivery, and improving maritime standards. The teams will also continue to significantly contribute toward maintaining and improving our guest areas.
